The new 1.5 mile railroad system at the
Okefenokee Swamp Park serves as a mode of transportation for the park, circling part of the Great Okefenokee Swamp. The railroad track was completed in January of 1999 and train
tours began in the Spring of 1999.
ABOUT THE TRACK: The track was installed by B.R. Moore Construction Company. This company has over 30 years experience in track construction. MATERIAL USED:
13,500 track spikes - L.B. Foster Co., Norcross, GA; 15,000 feet of 30 lb. rail; 808 rail joint bars; 3,200-5' crossties - B&M wood
products, Manor, GA; 1,800 tons of ballast stone - Dixie Roadbuilders, Waycross, GA ABOUT THE TRAIN: The train is a 36-gauge replica steam engine with three
coaches built by Cummings Locomotive of New Brunswick, Canada. The train is powered by a Perkins Turbo Diesel (108 HP). Seating capacity is 80 adults or 95 children. ABOUT THE TOUR:
Guests that visit Okefenokee Swamp Park in Waycross, Georgia can step back in time aboard "The Lady Suwannee" the
New Okefenokee Railroad. The train tour will take you on the adventure of a lifetime. Many points of interest will be featured on your journey including a 30
minute stop at Pioneer Island (will be one of the main attractions of the tour.) Pioneer Island is rich in history and our new Country Store has a variety of
